Welcome
The critical question facing the planet and its inhabitants is how can a balance be struck
between the needs of a burgeoning human population and the sustainability of the earth's
resources? Chief among the world's concerns is how to feed its inhabitants.
As the world looks toward marine resources as an important food source and as a means for
emerging nations to achieve parity with more developed nations, governments and private
resource-based entities are confronted by the twin problems of declining resources and
increasing global restrictions on resource use. Those challenges are addressed daily
by governments, private industries, and international regulatory forums.
The IFCNR-Fisheries Committee is the preeminent global advocate for issues, the
resources themselves, as well as the nations, people, and industries involved
with marine resources.
Before such international regulatory forums such as CITES, FAO, ICCAT, COFI etc.
the IFCNR-Fisheries Committee presents a clear and reasoned voice for sustained
use of marine resources; conservation of the world's oceans and aquatic resources;
and the viability of nations, operations, and cultures identified with the bounty
of the seas.
The IFCNR-Fisheries Committee believes in a holistic approach to resource conservation
and protection based on multi-species management within the totality of an ecosystem.
It believes the single species, non-use, over protection strategies espoused by extreme
NGOs threaten the oceans, marine wildlife, and humans alike.
IFCNR-Fisheries Committee seeks realistic environmental solutions that protect the
sustainability of marine resources and the integrity of the world's human cultures.
Balance is the key to our approach. Information is at the core of our effectiveness.
